MRI results

For now, this blog will be written from my (Amy's) perspective instead of Malachi's. WE'll go back to that once all the medical jargon is lessened.
The MRI results are in. They basically said that Malachi's brain is all there and put together the right way. There has been some damage in a couple of areas although they don't know if it was caused before birth sometime or during delivery. There's no way to tell that. The damage may or may not cause some developmental problems. The current plan is to start weaning Malachi off the phenobarbitol to see how he'll respond. If he starts to seize again, he'll go back on. If he doesn't seize, it's a matter of watching carefully to see whether his development is okay. This includes all normal infant behavior like rooting (which we know he is still doing), crying, eating, sucking, breathing okay.....and excluding all abnormal behavior like lip smacking, tics, and not responding to stimuli appropriately. He'll stay on his antibiotics to finish out a full week. The lab results are not back yet but should be by Wed. His bilirubin levels are still going down without the bili lights so he's probably off the bili lights for good although that can still change. Today, after the MRI, he's also been bumped up to a little less than an ounce of breastmilk every 4 hours which is double what it was so that's a big praise. He's gaining weight despite the small amounts of food. Yesterday, he weighed in at 10 lbs. 2 oz. CRAZINESS!
Olivia got to come see him today and did pretty well. She was a little nervous at first but came around pretty quickly and then wanted to go see all the other babies. It's been hard on us to not have her around all the time but she's in good hands with her grandparents.
Also, thanks for all the visitors today, Aunt Carole and Uncle Jim, Jordan, Grammy and Grandad, LIvi, of course, Kristen Seitz, Gabe (thanks for the comic relief, as always), and Grandma and Sherri (sorry we missed you guys...it was Livi's nap time).
PLEASE PLEASE continue to pray for Malachi. It's easy to get complacent but Satan doesn't get complacent. Pray that his brain recovers completely and no developmental problems are there and they'll never be there. Pray for him to not seize anymore. Pray that he responds well to coming off the meds.
We've learned a lot about spiritual warfare this week and are confident that God wants to heal Malachi completely. I cannot even begin to name all the amazing things that God has done through Malachi already.
Malachi means "messenger of God"....he's certainly taught us a thing or two already.
Pray also for Livi. It's hard to be away from mom and dad for a long time. Pray for us...it's hard to be away from Livi. We're also tired and emotionally drained.

We love you guys! Thanks for praying for our little guy!

I love being able to see baby Malachi! I guess reading everythign about him, I forget, like you said, how big he is! What a great praise-that he's gaining weight despite everything going on. He's definately a fighter and we're so thankful that God made him that way.

Can't wait to hear how today goes!

Praying for you guys!

Abba Father God I am asking that you lay your wonderful hand over Malachi now and that your heal his little brain and by your power allow him to fully recover the seizing that has taken place. I know that you are working and answering the many prayers for Austin, Amy, Olivia and Malachi as we speak. I implore you Abba to allow little Malachi to feel your presence and your comfort righ this very nano second and that as you are doing what you know is best in answering this prayer that you give incredible peace to Austin and Amy also.

I thank you for his life and for what you have called Malachi to do in his life. In Jesus Name I lay Malachi and his family at your feet knowing that you are in control of everything. In Jesus' Name I pray Amen and Amen!!!!

Hi, I just googled my sons name wondering what would come up. His name is also Malachi. He is just a little older than your son. He was born July 29th. I am touched by your blog. My husband and I are also born again Christians. Our God is the great healer and giver of wisdom! I pray that he will totally heal your son and give you and the doctors wisdom! I love the verse in James 1,talking about how the Lord gives wisdom to those who ask for it without doubting. I trust He will give you His perfect wisdom!
Congratulations on your precious gift from God! And I love the name you chose! I also love the meaning of the name. I pray that our son will live up to His name and one day be one of God's messengers!
